Unfortunately due to a lack of funding from our governing body and government, a lack of buy-in from corporates and minimum media exposure, cyclists, especially paracyclists, have to source their own funding for equipment, training, travel, and competitions.

As far as is possible I endeavour not only to enjoy my time in the sport but also to help raise up the next generation of para-cyclists and leave the sport in a better state than it is currently.
COMPETITIONS FOR 2021
These are the races/competitions that are currently scheduled. Dates may change due to Covid regulations.
South African National Time Trial and Road Race Championships - 18th - 21st March (TBC/new date)
Paracycling Classics Ronde In Flanders Brugge-Oudenaarde (Road) - 30th April
UCI Para-Cycling Road World Cup – Ostend - Belguim - 6th - 9th May
2021 UCI Para-cycling Road World Cup - Marostica - Italy (TBC) - 13th - 16th May
UCI Para-Cycling Road World Championships – Cascais - Portugal - 9th - 13th June (team still to be selected)
Toyko Paralympics 2020 (2021) - Tokyo - Japan - 24th Aug - 5th September (team still to be selected)
SPONSORSHIP NEEDS:
When traveling for competition I have to take an assistant/friend to assist me due to my disability. Thus I have to pay for two people to travel and attend every competition I attend.
Cost Estimates (depends on traveling between competitions)
South African Road and Time Trial Champs - R9 500
Flanders Classic (Brugge-Oudenaarde, Belgium) - R42 700
UCI World Cup 1 (Ostend, Belguim) - R25,000/ R30,000
UCI World Cup 2 (TBC) - R40,000 (20 May - 23 May) - Will probably stay in Belguim between World Cup 1 & 2
World Championships (Cascais, Portugal) - R42,698.00
Other expenses I need to cover:
Cycling SA Racing License - R500.00 per year
Cycling SA Membership - R300.00 per year
Maties Parasport Club Fees - R300.00 per year
Gym Fees - R275.00 per month
Uber Rides to Gym - R800 per month
Biokinetics sessions - R627 per month
Zwift Membership - R300 per month (as I can't go cycle alone on the roads, Zwift is my main form of training)
